There is a holy work in the earth that can only be done in the spirit through intercession for which there is no substitute. Its value cannot be overestimated, for without it very little, if any eternal benefit, will be gained. Today, many are attempting to offer the world programs, talent, music, and attractive emotional appeals in an effort to sway the hearts of the masses to God. But, more often than not, these efforts fall pathetically short of the goal. They simply don’t have the spiritual muscle which is always required to see the manifestation of what Jesus was describing when He said, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10 nkjv). The Kingdom of Heaven will not invade the earthly realms, destroying the strongholds of demonic darkness, until the people of God intercede and in faith declare it to be so. There is no shortcut to seeing the outpouring of Heaven’s power in the earth. These things happen the same way they have always happened across the centuries. God’s presence, power, and glory will be seen when His people pray with fervent passion, holy conviction, and unwavering perseverance!
A. T. Pierson said, “From the Day of Pentecost, there has not been one great spiritual awakening in any land which has not begun in a union of prayer, though only among two or three. No such outward, upward movement has continued after such prayer meetings have declined.”
Early in the Welsh Revival (1904), a Wiltshire evangelist visited the meetings at Ferndale. He stood up and said, “Friends, I have journeyed to Wales with the hope that I may glean the secret of the Welsh Revival.” In an instant, Evan Roberts was on his feet, and with an uplifted arm, he said, “My brother, there is no secret! Ask and ye shall receive!!” There is no substitute for prayer. There is no shortcut around prayer. John Bunyan once said, “You can do more than pray after you have prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed.”
