Kafanchan, Nigeria
Kafanchan is the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, south of Kaduna State, Nigeria. It is a major railway terminus linking the south and north of Nigeria. The Kafanchan Railway Station therefore became the hub of the economic life of the town as natives and people from other tribes of Nigeria settled there as railway workers, or engaged in trading, farming and other kinds of business. Kafanchan is two hours drive from Abuja and Kaduna respectively, and one and a half hours drive from Jos.
POPULATION: Kafanchan is surrounded by some towns of Southern Kaduna with a total population of over 800,000.
RELIGION: The population of Kafanchan is predominantly Christian. The area is also made up Muslims and adherents of traditional religion.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Kafanchan boasts of infrastructures such as cyber cafés, hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges and institutions of higher learning, and the three most popular GSM networks in Nigeria, namely, MTN, GLO, and CELTEL are operational in the town. Kafanchan is also the location of a station of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and sits on the line connecting Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kuru, Bauchi, and Maiduguri.
